Before entering the teaching profession, I spent 10 years working at summer camps, outdoor education facilities, and recreation centers. In this time I grew to love working with students of all ages and learning through experience. This background informs many of my choices as a teacher. I prefer to provide students with opportunities to interact with, touch, and explore the topics that they are learning rather than providing information and expecting them to remember it. I also try not to limit myself to teaching just science, but also to address the whole student, teaching life skills and values within my classroom.
I spent the last year working as a resident here at Stuart Middle School as part of the Boettcher Teacher Residency program. Through that program I got to spend an entire year shadowing a very talented mentor. In December of 2016 I will earn a Master of Arts in Education with an emphasis in Culturally Linguistically Diverse from Adams State University.
Outside of school I can usually be found in the outdoors. I like to hike and camp. Although I am relatively new to Colorado, I have already conquered three 14ers, and expect to climb more each summer. I am beginning to experiment as an amateur nature photographer, and some of my photos will occasionally make it into this website or into my classroom. I am also a huge soccer fan. I was born in Salt Lake City, so I support my hometown team Real Salt lake. I also regularly attend Colorado Rapids games and root for them most of the time as well. I am also a member of the United States national team's supporters group.
